FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND COOLING TOWER, MAJOR RENOVATIONS, NEW CONSTRUCTION FEATURED AT KEY CAMPUS OPEN HOUSE MAY 21

Updates to homeless services campus made with accessibility, heat relief, and program sustainability in mind

WHAT
  • Key Campus (formerly Human Services Campus) holds an Open House Event to invite donors, city, county, and state leaders, and community partners on May 21st, 2:00-5:00pm to showcase major renovations.
  • Key Campus opened its gates in 2005 and is in its 20th year serving the local unhoused community.
  • Projects funded through an investment of $7.5 million from the Maricopa County Industrial Development Association (MCIDA).
  • First-of-its-kind cooling tower donated by City of Phoenix to create innovative solution to extreme heat.
  • Renovations include an updated outdoor plaza that spans multiple acres and features new paths to promote accessibility, and desert landscaping to provide shade and reduce operating costs.
  • Projects completed to date: Key Campus Plaza and Cooling Tower.
  • Projects nearing completion: New Key Campus Administration Offices and way-finding infrastructure.
  • Additional planned projects include expansion of Welcome Center, interior updates to Lodestar Day Resource Center, and conversion of current Administration building for additional program space.
WHEN AND WHERE
  • Keys to Change NEW Administration Office Building at 1218 W. Madison Street, Phoenix, AZ 85007
  • Open House on May 21st, 2:00-5:00pm
WHY IT MATTERS
  • “The MCIDA is proud to have been a collaborative partner with the Key Campus for over 20 years — from its initial construction to its most recent, remarkable renovations,” says MCIDA Executive Director Shelby Scharbach. “We honor the Key Campus’s enduring vision to create a place of refuge, transformation, and opportunity for individuals experiencing homelessness.”
  • “Key Campus founder Mike McQuaid envisioned a dignified, accessible, collaborative space where anyone experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County could connect with the services they need. 20 years later, I know he’d be amazed to see the beautiful new Plaza and the total transformation of what was a warehouse acting as a men’s overflow shelter,” says Amy Schwabenlender, CEO of Keys to Change. “In a time of uncertainty, these renovations send a message to our unhoused neighbors that no matter how tides shift, that we’re here with them, working alongside them to end their homelessness. And we’re not going anywhere until everyone has a home.”
INFO
  • Keys to Change, a 501c3 nonprofit agency, owns and operates a 13-acre campus at 12th Avenue and Madison that is home to 13 nonprofit organizations providing services and resources to help people end their homelessness.

About Key Campus

Founded in 2005, the Key Campus, formerly Human Services Campus, is a collaborative force of partner organizations united on one campus to end homelessness. Located just west of downtown Phoenix, 13 independent agencies on the Campus see more than 1,000 individuals every day, offering a holistic range of client services including: reunification with family and friends; mental, physical and dental health; shelter; employment; meals; legal services and housing. Having all of these resources in one location with intra-agency communications makes it more feasible to provide a customized engagement for each client to help end their homelessness. For more information, visit www.keystochangeaz.org
