Complexity Untangled

A Place to Call “Home”

Brett’s homelessness began in Los Angeles five years ago after being struck by a vehicle and seriously injured. Medical debt and job loss resulted in an eviction. He moved, unhoused, to Phoenix. Last year, Brett met Chris, a compassionate neighbor-turned-friend who offered to accompany Brett to Key Campus. His case was “a complicated knot to untie,” says Charlie, Interim Outreach Manager for Keys to Change. The quest to untangle that knot included a staff drive to Los Angeles in pursuit of name change documentation. This is one example of the extraordinary lengths Keys to Change will go to advocate for our clients as they navigate the complex social services system.

Determination

Thanks to Brett’s determination and a true community effort, he now resides in an affordable housing community through Key Campus partner A New Leaf. With furniture donations from Deseret Industries and some muscle from the Keys to Change Operations Team, Brett moved into a fully furnished apartment.

Brett has a place to call home for the long haul!
