Judy

A Softer Face

A Special Day

What makes Project Connect so special is just that – the connections. It’s about the power of human connection to create a butterfly effect for positive change.

Take, for example, the day that “Judy” had at Project Connect in Avondale. When she arrived, Judy was greeted by a volunteer guest guide, who got to know her while assessing her to-do list for the day. Surrounded by a supportive community, Judy got a lot done!

Kim and Judy

Lots Accomplished

She was able to verify her place on a housing voucher list with a Keys to Change Behavioral Health Specialist. She connected with Keys to Change SOAR office to restart stalled paperwork for disability benefits. She picked out a new outfit, took a shower, and got a haircut. She ate a hot meal and received hygiene supplies and snacks for the road.

We caught up with Judy at lunch and she had this to say:

“I want people to see a softer face to being homeless. We’re all out here for so many reasons and we just want a better life and a place to sleep,” said Judy.  “I want to help speak up for the people hanging on by their fingernails.”

All Smiles

She was all smiles by the end of the day, ready to take the next steps with energy and optimism. She hugged her guest guide goodbye, they exchanged a few more laughs, and Judy left the event feeling like a new person. That’s the power of human connection and the value in the collaborative model! Working together. Ending homelessness.
