“We’re going to need a bigger truck…” As Temps Rise, Effort to Hydrate Unhoused Individuals Receives Massive Response – Over 40,000 Bottles of Water Donated Through a Single Employer

June 15th 8am to 10am at AZ Financial Headquarters

WHAT

Arizona Financial Credit Union employees donated over 1,200 cases of bottled water to Keys to Change as part of the Thirst Aid Summer Drive. Employees will gather Monday June 15th between 8:00 am and 10:00 am to load up the donated cases of water for delivery to Key Campus – where the water will be distributed to unsheltered individuals who are utilizing the Campus’ services.

The volume of water donated far exceeded expectations for the month-long employee drive, prompting Keys to Change to rent a large truck to come back for the donated supplies.

Key Campus, a 13-acre facility just west of downtown Phoenix, serves over 1,200 people at-risk or experiencing homelessness every day. The Campus just extended hours to provide more shade and indoor space for people to get out of the extreme heat. Preventing heat-related illness and death is a top priority for the Campus in the summer months.

It’s estimated that 120,000 bottles of water are distributed each month at Key Campus – the bulk of which are donated through Thirst Aid Drives like the one held by Arizona Financial Credit Union.

WHY IT MATTERS

Quote from Christina Fankhauser, Development Director, Keys to Change: “We showed up at the Arizona Financial office this week expecting to pick up a couple dozen cases of water. What we encountered left us speechless – over 1,200 cases of bottled water donated by employees and their families in a one-month timeframe. Conference rooms full of pallets – literally overflowing with community care for our unhoused neighbors,” says Keys to Change Development Director Christina Fankhauser. “The heat can be deadly – and when temperatures rise, compassion saves lives. Now we get to rent a bigger truck to match the big hearts at Arizona Financial.”

Quote from Amy Hysell, President and CEO of Arizona Financial Credit Union: “For Arizona Financial, being community-driven means standing with our neighbors in moments that truly matter,” said Amy Hysell, President and CEO of Arizona Financial Credit Union. “Our partnership with Keys to Change reflects a shared commitment to care for those facing real hardship – especially during Arizona’s extreme summer heat, when access to water can be life-saving. Seeing our employees come together with such heart has been incredibly meaningful, proving that even small acts of generosity can make a big difference.”
