About StandDown

The Arizona Veterans StandDown Alliance (AVSA), established in 2013, is a program of the Arizona Housing Coalition that holds annual events and resource fairs in 13 of Arizona’s 15 counties, including the nation’s largest event of its kind, the annual Maricopa County StandDown. These events allow veterans and their families who are experiencing housing instability and homelessness to get and stay connected to supportive services.

Volunteer Roles

Guest Guide:
Assist veteran guests with event navigation, service prioritization, mobility, and more. Ideal for those who enjoy 1:1 conversation and have knowledge of social services or an eagerness to learn. Approx. 80 total slots available over the 2 days. Managed by Keys to Change. Additional Zoom training required.
Registration/Data Entry:
Register veteran guests as they enter the event and enter data with speed and accuracy. Ideal for those with data entry experience (bank employees and data experts to the front!) and who are able to sit for long periods of time. Approx. 160 slots available over the 2 day event. Managed by Arizona Housing Coalition. Additional Zoom training required.
Guest Experience Support:
General event support including greeting, wayfinding, water distribution, facilities upkeep, lunch delivery, “other duties as assigned.” Ideal for those with a can-do attitude who like to get their steps in. Approx. 160 slots available over the 2 day event. Managed by Keys to Change.
Provider Liaison:
Support service providers as they assist veteran guests with access to resources. Duties include being available to run errands around the event, assisting service providers with their lunches and supplies, and more. Ideal for those that enjoy a fast-paced environment, problem solving, anticipating needs, and multi-tasking. Approx. 48 slots available over the 2 day event. Managed by Keys to Change.
Volunteer Check-In/Support:
Ensure a smooth experience for your fellow volunteers. Assist with volunteer arrivals and check-in, including some light data entry and explanation of what to expect. Will need to arrive half an hour prior to shift start time and hold down the fort in the volunteer area throughout. Ideal for those who enjoy customer service, like both a rush and a lull, and can sit for long periods of time. Approx. 24 slots available over the 2 day event. Managed by Keys to Change.
Setup Day:
Join us the day before Event Day 1 to help set up tables and chairs, test pop-up tents, arrange provider areas, hang wayfinding signs, and ensure we’re ready for launch! Afternoon shift will include assisting with Provider Check-In and setup. Managed by Keys to Change.
